27A The Art of Social Media


The general theme of this book follows very nicely with the title it is all about how to maximize your social media presence. That means connecting with people, creating content, and some do’s and don’t’s. I found this book very useful as I do not come to social media naturally. It is not something I have been able to utilize very effectively that is the main reason I chose this book.

This book really helps to enhance the marketing side of the class when you are going out to get your customers. Social Media is a very cost effective and efficient way of connecting with your customers. This book really helps one maximize that potential.

The biggest Aha moment I had when the author explains content curation. He talks about creating really great original content is very time consuming. He mentions a company can only create and post 2 original content messages a week that is of high quality. So one way to maximize connecting with your customer is curation, or summing up other account post.

  1. I read this book for my second reading reflection and I agree that it helps to enhance the marketing skills that come into play in this class. You also make a great observation that social media is the best way to advertise because you can reach the largest market at the lowest cost. Creating content can be very challenging, especially when trying to post more frequently which is why companies typically have to choose quality over quantity in the end and post less, but be posting better content.

    Social media is something that is becoming more important as more of our lives are lived online. I really liked the way the book gave you the reason behind everything. The book gave actual examples, it didn’t just tell you why or how to do something without the evidence to back it up.

    Like Katia, I also read this book for my second reading reflection. Kawasaki talks about the numerous ways that an individual or business can build up a successful social media account. I also think that your aha moment was an interesting part of the book. The aha moment that I had when I read the book was how Kawasaki said that nobody really knows how social media works at all. There are a number of ways that you can be successful on social media and there are no two ways the same. All in all, it was a great book!

    I also chose a book from the second half of the reading list, Makers: The New Industrial Revolution. It sounds like your book was similar to mine in that it provided helpful information for someone starting a business. I liked your aha moment about content curation. It was really interesting to read about the type of strategy companies can use to help meet their social media goals.
