For my second reading reflection I chose the book “Innovation
and Entrepreneurship” by Peter Drucker.
The overall theme of this book is looking at Innovation and
Entrepreneurship as it reacts with the economy from almost a psychological or
sociology perspective. It goes into great detail on how Peter Drucker think
entrepreneurs think and act and how that action has effect on the economy.
This book gave great detail on how the entrepreneur thinks
and acts. Which is much of what we talked about in this class. As well the book
talks about innovation and how innovation works and different forms of
innovation.
I would design an exercise for the class around a case study
of one of the newer tech companies that have started in the past few decades.
By using some of the principles in the book people could provide comparison of what
was found in the book and what happened in real life.
One of the light bulb moments that stands out to me happened
in the very beginning of the book. During the introduction Peter Drucker talks
about how business have changed over the years. Moving from large bureaucratic
organizations to leaner more innovative organizations.

ReplyDeleteI also read "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" for Reading Reflection No. 2. I like the exercise you designed where a student would analyze a newer company based on the strategies of the book. Because I’ve always enjoyed history, the class exercise I designed used some of the companies mentioned in the book. But, I like your idea of using more contemporary examples which would probably include companies that students may be more familiar with.
