9A Stress testing the hypothesis
Who: The main
customers for my idea are hungry, need items in a convenience store, and/or
need to use the services of a full-service gas station for semi-trucks. In my
idea I am thinking of fast service restaurants for the traveler. Some of the
businesses that would not fit into my boundaries are sit-down restaurants. While
some drivers might want that I believe the majority would mainly want fast
service. Customer who are like mine but fall outside of the boundary are ones
who have already satisfied their thirst and/or filled up their vehicles.
What: The point
that differs in my idea comes with the quickness of the service for the
restaurants. In deed there are other kinds of restaurants out there, but my
idea focuses on fast service restaurants.
Why: There are restaurants
and gas stations to the north and south of Starke so some potential customers
could have already stopped at before reaching the area for my idea.
In my
interviews most of said that the reason they would not stop at my restaurant or
gas station is if they already stopped at one earlier in their travels. They
also mentioned the ease of accessing the locations. If they are easy to access
then they would be more inclined to stop. If they need to go off the route a
great distance or u-turn then they would not want to stop either.

Some people might want to take an extended break and have a nice
meal. Those are in the minority.

I thought your chart offered good insight into the potential for this opportunity. It seems like the inside the boundary group is larger than those outside who seem to be the minority, which looks good for the likelihood of success for your business. Often the turnpike has many successful service areas placed frequently in distance near each other because people will always need gas so I do not think that will be too much of a concern. I myself find that I stop at different service plazas along the same routes sometimes depending on when it is that I end up needing a break or needing gas.

ReplyDeleteI said it before, and I will say it again! I think that your idea is a great one. I literally drove underneath the new overpass this morning on my way back home. They are building it very quickly. After reading your previous posts, I was curious. The closest gas station or food location is miles from where the new road will be, and at the moment, travelers would literally have to cut back and go into the Starke traffic to get anything.

ReplyDeleteThe chat is helpful for determining what your target customer is. Having it be full service for semi-trucks is a good idea because they will spend a lot more money, especially if they fill up their giant gas tanks on their trucks. They will also be more likely to come inside and spend more money on food since they have been traveling for a while.
